Oct 01, 2019 12:05 am
Nick Reisman reports for New York State of Politics that Democrat Karen Smythe announced over the weekend that she will try again to win the Hudson Valley state Senate seat now held by Republican Sen. Sue Serino. The 41st State Senate District represents Dutchess and Putnam Counties. Smythe is selling new Democratic control of the Senate as a reason to vote for her. "Our communities need state resources, and as a member of the new Senate Majority, I will fight tirelessly to address the diverse needs of our towns and cities. During these challenging times, we need a state government that works for all of us, and I am committed to being a fighter for Dutchess and Putnam Counties,” she said. Serino has held the seat since beating Democrat Terry Gipson in 2014, and she beat Smythe in 2018. Read more about this story at New York State of Politics.
