Rensselaer Co. handling of early voting sites prompts legislative response

Oct 02, 2019 2:30 pm
David Lombardo is reporting for Capitol Confidential the backlash against the decision by Rensselaer County officials to exclude the city of Troy as the site for early voting now includes a legislative response from Sen. Neil Breslin. The Bethlehem Democrat, who represents Troy, has put forward legislation requiring counties to place at least one early voting site in the most heavily populated municipality within their borders. Troy, which has nearly 27,000 voters, will not have a polling site for early voting, while Brunswick and Schodack, with less than 10,000 registered voters apiece, are serving as early voting sites. In Schenectady and Albany counties the largest cities will have early voting sites. The legislation could not be enacted in time for elections this year, but it could be passed next year in time for the 2020 races. Read the full story in the Times Union.
