Greene County holds budget hearing Nov. 4

Oct 29, 2019 12:55 am
Sarah Trafton reports for Columbia-Greene Media that there will be a public hearing about Greene County's next budget at 6 p.m. Nov. 4 in the Catskill High School Auditorium. The Greene County Legislature is proposing a $121.7 million budget, up from last year’s $119 million spending. Some legislators, though, are lobbying for changes including adding a flycar on the mountaintop and using taxes from internet sales for a specific purpose. A flycar is a paramedic vehicle for prepping patients for transport before an ambulance arrives. Catskill legislators Michael Bulich and Matthew Luvera oppose an additional flycar because Catskill is already paying for its own Advanced Life Support Ambulance service. Legislators blamed the increase in the budget on the debt service for the new jail, increased personnel costs associated with Raise the Age legislation, bail reform, and evidentiary discovery changes.
