Liquor authority to host public hearing on Dutchess store hours

Aug 14, 2019 12:45 pm
Ryan Santistevan is reporting for the Poughkeepsie Journal the Dutchess County Legislature's decision to extend the hours liquor stores in that county can stay open is still open for discussion. Anyone opposed to the decision has a chance to be heard by the state Liquor Authority on August 27. SLA Chairman Vincent Bradley will preside over the public hearing, which is required before the changes can be implemented. A liquor authority spokesman said that no decision will be made at the meeting. "The hearing is to gather public support and opposition on the proposed change," he said. "Following the hearing a written report will be presented to the full board of the SLA who will decide whether to approve or disapprove the change." Attendees can sign up to speak in opposition or support as early as 4 p.m. the day of the hearing. Written comments can also be submitted in care of the SLA secretary's office in Albany. The change would allow county liquor stores to be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday. They would also be able to operate during those hours on New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day and Thanksgiving, as well as the day before Thanksgiving and from Dec. 18 to 24.
