Locally, 18 businesses charged with selling alcohol to minors

The Albany Times Union reports that 18 local businesses were charged with serving minors during a statewide crackdown on underage drinking last month. Greene County had 11 businesses on the list, with five more in Albany County, and one each in Columbia and Rensselaer counties. The State Liquor Authority, the state Department of Motor Vehicles, and local law enforcement agencies sent underage customers into bars, restaurants, liquor stores and grocery stores in 46 New York counties during the operation in April. In Greene County the businesses included the Stewarts Shop at the corner of Routes 9W & 81 in Coxsackie; Tops #724 at 7410 Route 9W RD1 in Coxsackie; Cumberland Farms #1571 at 359 Mansion Street in Coxsackie; Bottle & Cork at 11834 Route 9W in West Coxsackie; Xtra Mart at Route 23B in Catskill; Cumberland Farms # 1566 at 145 North Jefferson in Catskill; Spring Street Sunoco at 1099 Spring Street in Catskill; #120 Walmart Super Center at 30 Catskill Commons in Catskill; Cumberland Farms #1559 at 236 Main Street in Cairo; CVS #5036 at 7600 Route 32 in Cairo; and Tamanna at 441 Main Street in Cairo. In Albany County those charged were all in Ravena, included the Getty Ravena at 213 Main Street; Rite Aid Pharmacy #4805 at 2463 Route 9W; the CVS #5037 in Faith Plaza at 2480 Route 9W; Ravena Shop & Save at 2481 Route 9W; and Friendship Discount Beverage at 2504 Route 9W. The Chatham Wine & Liquor store at 53 Main Street was the lone Columbia County store charged, and the Hannaford Supermarket # 8361 at 592-600 Columbia Turnpike in East Greenbush was charged in Rensselaer County.
