The National Weather Service in Albany has issued a Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow, 9 p.m., Sun., Feb. 1, through 6 p.m., Mon., Feb. 2 for the Greater Capital Region, Mid-Hudson Valley, Taconics and eastern Catskills. Eight to 16 inches are expected, with a maximum snowfall rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour. The snow will begin to fall Sunday, and then continue to through the early morning Monday, and then taper to scattered snow showers into the late afternoon and evening. Winds from the northeast of 10 to 15 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph, are likely. Roads will be snow covered and extremely slippery with areas of blowing and drifting snow also possible. Unnecessary travel is not recommended.
