Eric Anderson is reporting for the Times Union Amtrak trains are running to Penn Station again, following the successful completion of infrastructure work on the Empire Connection, a former freight line now used to connect Penn to the Amtrak Empire Corridor. Scot Naparstek, An Amtrak spokesman said the work was completed on time, within budget, and without injuries. Beginning May 26, trains were diverted to Grand Central Terminal so that tracks could be replaced and the Spuyten Duyvil Bridge could be rehabilitated. The bridge's mechanical and electrical systems had been damaged during Superstorm Sandy. Amtrak also performed track work at Penn Station. In related news, the state has developed a plan to expand Penn Station into the former James A. Farley Post Office building located across the street from Penn and to build a new central train hall. The hall would be named for the late U.S. Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan. The Moynihan Train Hall is projected to be completed by the end of 2020. Read the full story in the Times Union.
