New Paltz joins fight against Fortis, CH Energy merger

Kemble reports in the Daily Freeman the town of New Paltz has joined a consortium of municipalities and grassroots organizations fighting the proposed $1.5 billion takeover of CH Energy Group by Fortis Inc. of Canada. The town board gave the go-ahead last week to financially contribute to the legal fight against the takeover of Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation's parent company. Town board members said any takeover should be contingent on resolving problems that CH Energy has declined to address. Board members also want the buyout to include a commitment by Fortis to reduce installation costs for solar energy systems. Read the full story in the Daily Freeman.
