Dec 21, 2017 7:45 am

Kaitlin Lembo is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the town of Windham is getting a weekend shuttle bus. The town board unanimously approved a contract with Valet Park of America at special meeting December 19, to establish the Windham Municipal Shuttle. The service will operate on weekends and during peak weeks throughout the year. It will begin December 26 and end New Year's Day, then continue its scheduled weekend service through March, except President's Day weekend in February. “Christmas weekend is the biggest thing to get this thing going because it will be going all week. It’s a chance for people to get familiar with the shuttle,” Town Supervisor Robert Pelham said. The free service will run from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; one shuttle will run for extended hours from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday. Bus routes have not been finalized, but plans are in the works for two shuttles that will go through Hensonville and Ashland and then loop back into Windham. A supporting app is also in development that will give users the real-time location of the bus. Kurt Goettsche, a Windham resident and Thompson House Ski Hotel employee, said the shuttle will help keep congestion down, minimize double-parking and cut down on drunk driving in the area.
