Emilia Teasdale is reporting for The Columbia Paper the village boards of Valatie, Kinderhook and Philmont have approved their 2019-20 budgets, the village of Chatham expects to approve its spending plan for next year later this month. Valatie's spending plan totals $1.67 million, and while spending has increased slightly, village taxes will be a “little bit lower than last year,” Mayor Diane Argyle said. In Kinderhook, the village board approved a $1.25 million budget on April 10. Mayor Jim Dunham said the spending plan was within the state mandated tax cap. The board also approved an increase in the amount some residents pay for maintenance on the sewer. The Philmont Village Board approved a nearly $2 million annual budget on April 8. The Chatham Village Board will hold a special meeting April 29 to consider its $1.2 million 2019-20 budget, which represents a $13,000 decrease over the previous spending plan. Mayor John Howe said expenditures are down, but expected revenues are down as well. The village fiscal year runs from June through May and budgets must be finalized and submitted to the state by late April. Read the full story in The Columbia Paper.
