Petersburgh PFOA case classified as a class action lawsuit

Kenneth C. Crowe II is reporting for the Times Union a lawsuit against Taconic Plastics Limited over PFOA contamination of Petersburgh's drinking water supply has been certified as a class action lawsuit. The case is the first of that kind statewide over PFOA contamination. State Supreme Court Judge Patrick J. McGrath certified the class, which includes all Petersburgh residents exposed to the contamination. “...For years, the residents of Petersburgh were exposed to toxic chemicals in their drinking water and this ruling represents a major step forward in their quest for justice,” said James Bilsborrow, attorney in the Environmental and Consumer Protection Unit at the law firm of Weitz & Luxenberg. The lawsuit alleges that PFOA took a vapor form when heated during a manufacturing process at Taconic and was released through smoke stacks. The lawsuit also alleges Taconic improperly disposed of substances containing PFOA in sinks, drains and garbage bags and taken to the town landfill, as well. Read the full story in the Times Union.
