Sep 12, 2019 12:15 pm
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo September 10, announced the creation of the Upstate Cellular Coverage Task Force. The task force, which was first proposed as part of Cuomo's 2019 State of the State, will develop policies to address the lack of cell service in rural and remote parts of upstate New York. It will be administered by Empire State Development. "Today we're leading the way forward by establishing a task force... [that] will develop concrete policies and help to ensure service is provided and infrastructure for it is built in a sustainable way," Cuomo said in a press release. The group is made up of industry experts, community leaders, government officials, environmental representatives, and has retained the professional services firm of Alvarez and Marsal as an advisor. The task force held its first meeting September 10. The group will develop recommendations for augmenting cellular coverage in unserved areas including the Adirondacks and Catskills.
