Catskill BoE says 'no' to legal cost-sharing

Kemble reports in the Daily Freeman the Catskill Town Board has been informed Catskill school district officials have turned down a request to pay for two-thirds of the legal cost of challenges to property assessments. In a letter to the Town Board, school Superintendent Kathleen Farrell said the Board of Education did not believe a commitment to the cost-sharing arrangement was prudent, given the district's limited funds. Farrell further stated that in most instances, as the assessing unit, the town is responsible for determining and defending a given assessment.
