Assembly member ponders Pokemon Go legislation

Jimmy Vielkind is reporting at Politico New York Assembly member Felix Ortiz, a Brooklyn Democrat, said he is "concerned” that people playing Pokemon Go, the viral augmented reality game, pose a risk to public safety. Already some people have reportedly been mugged while glued to their phones, which display balls and digital avatars on videos of people's actual surroundings. Ortiz said he was concerned people would play in busy streets, or while driving cars. And State Department of Motor Vehicles commissioner Terri Egan has warned the game could have “tragic real-world consequences.” Ortiz said he is not prepared to introduce any Pokemon Go-related legislation just yet, but he hopes game manufacturers will recognize the potential risks in their products and react accordingly. "My big call is to the company, to watch what is happening. They should be vigilant before they become liable,” Ortiz said. Read the full story at Politico New York.
