Pete Lopez announces bid for U.S. Congress

Siobhan (SHIV-on) Barton is reporting in The Daily Mail state Assembly member Pete Lopez announced Tue., Apr. 14, he will seek the 19th congressional district seat currently held by Chris Gibson. This will be the first congressional bid for the Schoharie Republican. Gibson announced in January he would not seek re-election in 2016. In response to the news of Lopez's announcement, Gibson said, “I know that our next Member of Congress must have the same commitment to doing what’s best for Upstate New York. Pete Lopez, and other local leaders, would be worthy successors.” Lopez was first elected to the Assembly in November 2006, and is currently serving his fifth term. Priorities for Lopez include tax relief for working families, support for quality, affordable public education and ending unfunded mandates. Before he was elected to the Assembly, Lopez served as Schoharie County clerk, village trustee, town councilman, and a member of the Schoharie County Board of Supervisors.
