One dead in Philmont house fire

Bill Williams is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media one person died in a house fire late May 13, in Philmont, said Investigator Eric Barnes with the state police Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Columbia County 911 dispatched Philmont and Mellenville firefighters to the structure fire at 137 Main Street around 7 p.m. Flames and smoke could be seen engulfing the second floor and attic area. All three floors of the building were damaged by fire or smoke and water, fire officials said. Firefighters remained on the scene hours after the initial call. The cause of the fire is not yet known. State police BCI, along with New York State Fire investigators, Philmont Fire and Philmont Police are investigating the blaze, Barnes said. Read the full story at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
