Nora Mishanec and Kate Lisa are reporting for Columbia-Greene Media "Justice for Harold" signs supportive of the alleged victim of a July 4 assault in Kinderhook have disappeared from lawns and roadsides in the northern part of the county. Some of the signs calling for justice on behalf of Columbia County resident Harold Handy have been taken down, the woman responsible for making the signs said July 14. A white Dodge Durango and a black GMC Denali were seen stopping to remove the signs, said Misty Brew-Kusewich, who created 50 lawn signs after hearing about the assault. The signs are intended to encourage people to speak up and bring awareness to the incident, she said. “This is not about Harold, this is about the community,” she said. Brew-Kusewich also ordered 250 stickers calling for justice, which she hopes will be less easily removed than lawn signs. She was motivated to produce the signs and stickers after speaking with her children about the criminal justice system. “I just want to know what is going on,” she said. The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office remains the lead agency investigating the incident, with assistance from the state police Special Investigation Unit, a state police public information officer said this week. The investigation into the alleged assault of the 31-year-old Handy, who was attending a holiday gathering at the home of Alex and Kelly Briscoe Rosenstrach, continues with little new to report. Alex Rosenstrach is the owner of ClubLife Gym and Fitness Center; Kelly Briscoe Rosenstrach is a Columbia County Sheriff's Deputy. She has been placed on administrative leave from her regular duties for an indefinite period of time. The authorities have been less than forthcoming with details, but in a July 9 press release Sheriff David Bartlett confirmed that no other deputy sheriffs were present at the Rosenstrach residence at the time of the incident.
