Public hearing held on Hunter Mountain expansion

Kaitlin Limbo is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the towns of Jewett and Hunter held a joint hearing last week to receive public comment on the proposed expansion of the Hunter Mountain resort. “We received some excellent positive feedback from residents,” Hunter planning board chairwoman Sarah Killourhy said. The board has submitted a negative declaration, declaring that the project will have no negative long-term impacts on the environment. The project is almost entire situated within the town of Hunter; however, the trails will cross Jewett's boundary, including a portion of the access road and five to 10 parking spots. Both the Hunter and Jewett planning boards will vote on the resort's application next month. The Hunter North expansion will include the construction of five new trails, the addition of a 268-spot parking lot, a pedestrian bridge and a new access road off Deming Road.
