Solar panels concern historic sites

Sarah Trafton reports for Columbia-Greene Media reports about another proposal for a solar project locally, and another group that does not wish to see solar panels in their backyard. Renua Energy wants to put a 1.6-megawatt solar farm on Alfred and Nancy Beers' property on Cauterskill Road, with more than 5,000 solar panels on 5.8 acres of the 112-acre property. Representatives from the Thomas Cole House and Olana State Historic Site showed up at a June 11 planning board meeting to retain their current viewshed. Planning Board Chairman Joseph Izzo said the solar panels would not be visible from the two historic locations. Scenic Hudson Director of Land Use Advocacy Jeffrey Anzevino said, “We want solar panels, as many as possible. But we want to make sure they’re in the right places, that they’re not taking up productive farmland or affecting important viewsheds.” Read more about this story at HudsonValley360.com.
