The Stevens Institute reports temperatures this week in the Hudson River at Schodack Island have been between 74 and 79 degrees.

Paul Kirby reports in The Daily Freeman that on Aug. 4 Robert Bordeau, founder of the American Wind Symphony Orchestra, is meeting in Kingston about possibly relocating a floating concert venue to the Hudson River city. Buffalo, and cities in France and Italy, are also talking to Bordeau about moving the floating concert stage there. In a previous article in the Chicago Tribune Bordeau said that Kingston “is a perfect place” for the Point Counterpoint II boat because the community is “going through a very creative time.” Read the full story in The Daily Freeman.

The Washington Post reports a huge steam generator made its way down the Hudson River to a New Jersey power plant. The $195 million heat-recovery steam generator started its cruise at the Port of Coeymans in Albany County Aug. 7. It passed under all five Hudson River bridges by the next day. The generator is 130 feet or 40 meters tall and weighs 8 million pounds or 3.6 million kilograms. It arrived without incident in New Jersey. Read the full story in The Washington Post.

Emily Masters is reporting in the Times Union state investigators have determined that pilot error and poor weather conditions caused an Albany-bound barge to run aground on the Hudson River in April. The vessel was carrying more than 60,000 barrels of refined gasoline at the time. The state Department of Environmental Conservation report on the grounding near Dutchmen's Landing in Catskill was released to the paper, Thu., Aug. 10. No fuel leaked as a result of the accident, and no violations of environmental law were found. At the time of the crash, the barge was being towed by the tugboat, Meredith C. Reinauer. The tug's captain, Steven Hardy, was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and neither he or any crew members face charges in connection with the crash.
