DEC honors Columbia County DA's Office

Bill Williams is reporting for WCTW-FM, "The Cat," the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has honored assistant Columbia County district attorneys Ryan Carty and Joyce Crawford with special service awards for outstanding enforcement efforts In support of the Environmental Conservation Police. DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos and DEC Executive Deputy Commissioner Kenneth Lynch presented Joyce and Ryan with their awards during a ceremony held September 12, at Empire State Plaza. The DA's office was given the award in acknowledgment of its help with several cases during the past two years, including the case of Environmental Conservation Officer James Davey, and the successful prosecution of a deer poaching case in Chatham earlier this year that resulted more than $16,000 in fines, as well as the convictions of four people on 15 criminal counts. And in June, the DA's office had a significant role in the seizure of nearly 100 illegal wildlife products, resulting in four convictions in addition to criminal and civil penalties.
