Cuomo vows to block pay increase for lawmakers

Glenn Blain reports in the Daily News Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said he will block salary hikes for state legislators until "the people's agenda" is resolved. Lawmakers have recently been clamoring for their first salary increase since 1999. Cuomo told reporters Tues., Oct. 16, he would not even consider a pay raise unless "...the people's business was being done in a thorough, responsible way." Cuomo's agenda includes a minimum wage hike and his own proposal to decriminalize small-scale marijuana possession. Cuomo supports a raise in the minimum wage, but has not specified how large an increase he is looking for. The Legislature is in recess until January, but there is speculation the Assembly and Senate will reconvene after Election Day to give themselves a raise. Read the full story in the Daily News.
