Audrey Matott reports in The Greenville Pioneer that two solar farms were approved by the Town of Westerlo Planning Board Jan. 23. The farms are being built by Colorado's Clean Energy Collective. One is a two-megawatt array at 626 County Route 351 near Rensselaerville; the other is a three-megawatt array at State Route 32 and County Route 405. That last one is next door to Shepard Farm, which was approved last month for two five-megawatt solar arrays on either side of State Route 32. Public hearings for the project came just after President Donald Trump announced large tariffs on importing solar panels, which raised questions. “I can't tell you where the panels for this project are going to be coming from,” said Clean Energy Collective's Director of Real Estate and Permitting Joseph Shanahan. “We don't make a lot of solar panels in this country for obvious reasons which is why the government has put a huge tariff on solar to try to discourage importing and encourage American-made. The issue is: if encouraging American-made will actually incentivize the manufacturer here in this country so that is going to have to work its way out.” Read the full story in The Greenville Pioneer.
