Melanie Lekocevic is reporting in The Daily Mail an election night tie ended in a victory for Christopher Chimento in the Coxsackie-Athens Board of Education race. Chimento won by one vote, cast by absentee ballot. After the polls closed, Tue., May 19, Chimento, of Coxsackie, and Athens resident William Gates were tied with 479 votes each. The men were vying for a third vacant seat on the board. Incumbents Michael Petramale and Barton Wallace received sufficient votes to retain their seats. Following a recount of absentee ballots by district officials Wednesday, Chimento was declared the winner. District Superintendent Randall Squier said, “We had to double-check all the absentee ballots to make sure they were all okay.
