Schneiderman says EO harms New York

Jon Campbell in The Poughkeepsie Journal reports that New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said Feb. 2 that President Trump's executive order on travel by some foreign nationals discriminates against Muslims and, "profoundly harms New York and its residents." Schneiderman has filed a motion in U.S. District Court in Brooklyn asking to join the American Civil Liberties Union's pending lawsuit that would overturn Trump's order. Currently, the judge has issued a stay against the order. Schneiderman's complaint says about 15,000 New York residents were born in the seven countries in Trump's order: Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. "The Executive Order deprives New York residents and other individuals of their statutorily granted rights to live and work in the United States without providing them any notice or opportunity to be heard," Schneiderman's motion says.
