William J. Kemble is reporting in the Daily Freeman the Catskill Town Board has agreed to waive fees for use of the Washington Irving Senior Center by not-for-profit groups that provide community benefits. The policy was revised during a meeting Wed., Sept. 4, after a local Cub Scout leader reported costs to use the facility would impact the budgets of youth groups. Officials have not set a fee schedule for the building on Thompson Street, but have advised groups they could be charged for the cost of employees to be on site during events. Town and village officials opened the senior center in 2005, after receiving state grant funding. Initially the facility was used for Village Board meetings, but officials were told that grant restrictions prohibited governmental sessions on the property. Read the full story in the Daily Freeman.
