Fate of fire chief undisclosed following hearing
Anthony Fiducia is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media, as expected, a disciplinary hearing on the charges leveled against Coxsackie Fire Chief Barry Rausch was held December 19. Rauch and village Mayor Mark Evans discussed a resolution behind closed doors, with a lawyer present, for nearly two hours before a settlement was reached. That agreement will now be submitted to the Coxsackie Village Board for approval. Following the hearing, Evans declined comment on whether Rausch will remain fire chief. Rausch said he and the village agreed to keep the terms the settlement confidential. “It’s all contingent on the approval of the Village Board,” he said. The 40-year veteran of the fire department was suspended from duty in November, but did not learn until December that he was facing 11 charges of misconduct, insubordination and neglect of duty.
