Trial in Meyers murder begins Wednesday

Nov 27, 2023 12:55 am

Andrea Macko reports in Porcupine Soup that two years after the murder of Catskill resident and community activist Scott Meyers, the trial begins on Nov. 29 for Carrie Weiser, the 34-year-old woman accused of stabbing Meyers in his 39 West Bridge Street apartment. Weiser allegedly stabbed Myers, 68, with a knife on the left side of his neck, severing his carotid artery. But no details of why she might have done that have emerged. The two have been reported to have been friends who went out to dinner the evening of the murder. She is being held in the Columbia County Jail rather than the Greene County Jail, but the story does not explain why. Meyers campaigned against the building of the new Greene County Jail, saying it was unnecessary and and that Greene County could continue to ship prisoners to other county jails. Meyers also used the Wave Farm Radio app to webcast Greene County meetings about the jail, and Greene County still does not webcast its own meetings. Read more about this story in Porcupine Soup.
