County green lights Quality Inn sale

Sep 22, 2017 7:20 am

Daniel Zuckerman is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the Greene County Legislature Wed., Sep. 20, formally authorized the sale of the former Quality Inn building on Route 23B in Leeds. The property has been vacant for several years. Demolition of the structure and disposal of the resulting debris will be paid for with funds received from the Restore New York Grant Development program. More details on the development plan for the four-acre parcel will be provided in a few months, Greene County Industrial Development Agency Executive Director Rene VanSchaack said. The site has to be assessed to determine the type of hotel that can be built, and whether a conference room and other amenities can be supported at that location, Greene County Administrator Shaun Groden said. The site has three buildable areas for a restaurant and other businesses. The county has been paying the tax bills on the property, roughly $1 million, Groden said. The IDA estimates demolishing the hotel and getting the space ready for resale will cost more than $500,000. Groden said the county and the IDA will be reimbursed once the property is sold.
