Athens Village Board to hold three public hearings
May 18, 2020 5:30 am
The village of Athens will hold a public hearing May 27, on a plan to create a Conservation Advisory Council, according to a press release from village trustee Josh Lipsman. Lipsman introduced legislation to establish the group. Under the law, the CAC would be made up of six residents appointed by the Athens Village Board along with three village officials. All would serve two-year terms. One CAC seat would have to be filled by someone under the age of 30. If approved, the Athens CAC would be the first established in Greene County. “We are a village set in a particularly special natural environment,” said Athens Village Mayor Stephan Bradicich. “We have a number of environmental issues we want to pay attention to, including the trees in our village and our efforts to become a certified Climate Smart Community,” he added. The village board will conduct two other public hearings on May 27 — one on a short-term rental law, and the other to hear comment on a moratorium on waterfront development for six months or until the village completes an update of the 2007 comprehensive plan.
