Bank of Greene County buys historic Catskill bank

Kyle Adams is reporting in The Daily Mail the Bank of Greene County recently purchased the former Catskill Savings Bank building located at 341 Main St. in Catskill. The bank will turn the 1909 structure into a lending center. Bank President and CEO Donald Gibson said the bank is already outgrowing its three existing Main Street locations and the new purchase will give the business room to grow. The 11,000-square-foot building retains much of the original 1909 architecture, from the marbled doorways and high, arched ceiling in the main lobby to the central bank vault. Additions in the 1940s, 60s and 90s added a second floor for office space, an expansion off the back of the building and a drive-through banking window. Gibson expects the bank to begin occupying the building in six to nine months. The Bank of Greene County employees 140 people; it serves customers in Greene, Albany, Columbia and Ulster counties.
