Lopez proposes making votes public within 24 hours
Jan 13, 2016 12:06 am
Assemblymember Pete Lopez (R-Schoharie) introduced a resolution E.846 Jan. 12 that would require the results of votes on the Assembly floor to be made electronically available to the public within 24 hours. “Recently, the public’s faith in the state Legislature has deteriorated because of the actions of self-serving individuals who accrued great power over decades in office. We are continuing the fight to restore the public’s faith by proposing meaningful ethics reform,” said Assemblyman Lopez. “Today, we reintroduced a slate of resolutions that will lead the Assembly down the path to good government so that we may go about conducting the people’s business. An important piece of this is bringing about transparency to the operations of the Assembly. The resolution I offered specifically calls for the results of a vote on an amendment to a bill or resolution considered by the Assembly to be made available, in electronic format, within 24 hours of the vote."
