Delgado-Van De Water race too close to call

Kate Lisa is reporting for Johnson Newspaper Corp. incumbent Democrat U.S. Rep. Antonio Delgado and his Republican challenger, Kyle Van De Water, are locked in a race too close to call without the mail-in ballot totals. Ballots are expected to be counted in the coming days. Delgado leads Van De Water with 47.8 percent of reported ballots, or 141,751 votes. Van De Water holds a close second with 45.1 percent of the vote, or 134,503 reported ballots, according to unofficial results from the state Board of Elections. Current numbers do not include absentee or affidavit ballots, which will start to be counted in New York on Friday at the earliest. The 19th Congressional District encompasses 11 upstate counties, including all of Columbia and Greene, Delaware, Otsego, Schoharie, Sullivan and Ulster, and parts of Broome, Dutchess, Montgomery and Rensselaer counties.
