Supervisors approve county airport runway plan

Joe Gentile is reporting in the Register Star plans to put the Columbia County Airport’s runway into compliance with a Federal Aviation Administration recommendation were adopted Wed., Apr. 9, by a majority vote of the Columbia County Board of Supervisors. The supervisors approved the Airport Committee's plan for a 1,000-foot-safety area on the runway's northern end, which is expected to cost a total of $3 million to build. Supervisors Mike Benson of New Lebanon, Erik Tyree of Taghkanic and John Reilly of Gallatin were the lone dissenters on the vote. Airport Committee Chairman Art Bassin said the next step is to schedule a meeting with the Federal Aviation Administration. Read the full story in the Register Star.
