Greene, Ulster counties team up on rope rescues

Dec 09, 2019 11:43 pm
Sarah Trafton reports for Columbia-Greene Media that two mountainous local counties are teaming up to form the Greene-Ulster Regional Technical Rescue Team for emergencies that require rope rescues. The Greene County Legislature's Public Safety Committee approved a resolution last week to establish the joint technical rescue team with its southern neighbor. A $150,000 grant from the state Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services for training and equipment will jump start the program, which will also include the three-year-old Twin Cloves Technical Rescue Team. “We are able to maximize grant funding, training and getting equipment by forming a regional team,” Greene County Emergency Management Specialist Daniel King said. “Generally, each county handles their own case.... If the county needs additional resources, the rest of the team will respond.” He said currently Greene County responders are on 12 to 15 rope rescues per year.
