Without info on tax increase or job loss, legislature to vote on jail

Sep 14, 2018 11:55 am
The Greene County Legislature wants to vote on a proposal to build a new Greene County Jail, and raise taxes considerably on residents, at a Sept. 20 meeting in Catskill. They are also considering sharing a jail facility with Columbia County that might cause a few job losses. Legislators have not said exactly how many jobs could be lost if they go with the Columbia County jail, or how much taxes will go up if they build their own jail. Still, the vote is proceeding. There will be a public comment session on the jail issue at 6 p.m., Sept. 17 at the county office building in Catskill. That will be followed by a Finance Committee meeting, with a vote on the jail project.
