United Way closing local chapter

Jan 02, 2019 12:45 pm
Bill Williams is reporting for WCTW-FM "The Cat," the United Way of Columbia and Greene Counties has announced that effective this month, service to Greene and Columbia counties will be subsumed by the United Way of the Greater Capital Region headquartered in Albany. Brad Poster, Executive Director of the local agency said in a press release, the trend of the organization's smaller agencies being absorbed by neighboring larger agencies is due in part to the changing demographics of the population and traditional sources of support. "A full 40 percent of the population of the two-county area is at or below the threshold of providing basic needs for daily living. The [United Way of the Greater Capital Region] already serves a five-county area including Rensselaer, Albany, Saratoga, Schenectady, and Schoharie counties. I see this union as a natural progression to better service the needs of Columbia and Greene counties,” Poster said. The United Way of Columbia and Greene Counties will no longer accept donations as of Jan. 18. Read the full press release at 985thecat [dot] iheart [dot] com.
