Feb 28, 2018 7:00 am
Lorna Cherot Littleway is reporting for The Columbia Paper at its February meeting, the Hillsdale Town Board passed Local Laws 1 and 2 to increase home assessment exemptions for veterans and extend exemptions for Cold War veterans. The extension increases the base exemption from $24,000 to $36,000. It also eliminates the 10-year limit on exemptions. Veterans who served during wartime, in combat zones or are disabled are eligible. Cold War veterans must have served from September 2, 1945 through December 26, 1991. According to the county’s real property tax service agency, 73 veterans in Hillsdale are currently receiving the veteran exemption. Read the full story in The Columbia Paper.
