Hudson's Barlow, Croff House for sale

Aug 28, 2020 6:00 am
Aliya Schneider is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media a Hudson couple in the hospitality business is calling it quits and cashing out. Russell Gibson and Duncan Calhoun have listed three properties — the Barlow Hotel on Warren Street for $2.2 million; The Croff House Bed and Breakfast on Willard Place for almost $1.1 million; as well as their home, also on Willard Place, for just under $1.4 million. The Barlow, in a building that once housed professional offices and apartments, now has 16 bedrooms and 27 bathrooms. Croff House B&B has 5 bedrooms. According to an email Gibson sent to the paper, The Barlow is not closing. "The building is for sale. Beyond that, we have no further comment," Gibson wrote. In a post to the Hudson Area Community Board page on Facebook Gibson addressed criticism of the alleged Warren Street elites. “Some think we are rolling in money,” Gibson wrote. “Today, we are struggling to keep our businesses open: high rents, high taxes (including the school tax which we pay even though we have no kids in school) and — worst of all — no customers. Loans from the government helped but that [sic] have to be repaid. How?” he wrote. All three buildings owned by the pair are historic, 19th and early 20th century structures. The Barlow underwent a complete renovation in 2013, and the hotel was one of six Crystal Apple Award finalists in 2014, in recognition of its contributions to the city.
