Greenport brush fires caused by fireworks

Jun 22, 2020 6:00 am
Bill Williams is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media that three brush fires that occurred in Greenport late June 20 are believed to have been caused by fireworks, Greenport Fire Chief John Onufrychuk said. Town firefighters were dispatched by Columbia County 911 to three areas of Fingar Road and Hiscox Road at approximately 5:36 p.m., June 20, after receiving reports of brush fires. Firefighters were able to put the fires out quickly, Onufrychuk said. The fireworks were thrown from a moving car, causing all three fires that blackened areas on Fingar Road and one area on Hiscox Road, the chief said. The incidents are being investigated by the state police and the Columbia County Sheriff's Office. Read more about this story at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
