David Lombardo is reporting for the Times Union Democrats go to the polls June 26, in the Hudson Valley to choose who will take on Freshman Republican John Faso in a widely watched Congressional race. Seven Democrats have lined up to take on Faso in the 19th Congressional District in what will likely be one of the most competitive races in November nationwide. The district includes all of Columbia, Greene and Schoharie counties and parts of Montgomery and Rensselaer counties. Registered Democrats narrowly outnumber Republicans in the area, but 26 percent of the district's voters are not affiliated with a party. In November 2016, Faso won by approximately 25,000 votes. The field of seven Democrats consists of: Jeff Beals, David Clegg, Erin Collier, Antonio Delgado, Brian Flynn, Gareth Rhodes and Pat Ryan. The top three fundraisers in the field are Delgado, Ryan and Flynn. All three candidates recently moved to the district and have purchased television time to promote their campaigns. Turnout on Tuesday is expected to be very low, and Democratic strategist Sean Magers emphasized the importance of efforts to get out the vote. Polls in the region are open between noon and 9 p.m. Voters are only able to participate in primaries for the party in which they are enrolled.
