Citizen Science is a relatively new term that describes collaborations between scientists and volunteers on research projects. Cornell Lab of Ornithology offers a definition of Citizen Science as “projects in which volunteers partner with scientists to answer real-world questions." Citizen Science provides fascinating and fun opportunities for volunteers with a passion for the outdoors. Citizen Science opportunities are abundant and diverse. From contributing observations of birds and insects, to monitoring water quality, to tracking the spread of invasive species – nature lovers can enjoy the outdoors while contributing to scientific discovery. This program, offered in partnership with Greene Land Trust, will provide an overview of Citizen Science opportunities in Greene County and the Hudson Valley, including those conducted by NYSDEC, National Audubon Society and Cornell University.
