The Catskill Community Center is hosting an educational program and volunteer recruitment effort for an American eel migration study. American eel (Anguilla rostrata) is a migratory fish that is born in the Atlantic Ocean and enters rivers as tiny “glass eels” each spring. Teams of scientists and students collect glass eels using net and trap devices on several Hudson River tributaries. Juvenile fish are counted, weighed, and released upstream, often above dams to better habitat. Volunteers are needed at the Hannacroix Creek study site. All are welcome learn more about these fish and this study.
