transmitter2ears is a live performance/installation with two parabolic speakers, binaural microphones, radio transmission, and a synthesizer. Together they form an audio-feedback loop, open to the sounds of the environment. A performer/musician equipped with binaural microphones interacts with the audio-field of the highly directive speakers. In this site-specific performance, Fabian Lanzmaier and Andreas Zißler (Vienna) work with audio reflections, directional sound beams and specific resonances, turning the landscape of the Wave Farm Art Park into an instrument.

This participatory workshop (conducted via Zoom) introduces you to the realm of spectrum management: the overlapping forces of law, politics, economics & technology that shape the landscape of the electromagnetic spectrum, and thereby the lives of the citizens within it. Up and down the electromagnetic field, we communicate, express our selves, and forge relationships. Our very personhood is therefore bound up in our access to spectrum and its regulation.

For 125+ years, the sheer immaterial strangeness of the radio spectrum has mounted challenge after challenge to the “commonsense” around which our world is ordered: property, territory, the greater good. For, at heart, what *is* spectrum? Is it an invisible continent? common utility? precious natural resource? transcendent ether? Each analogy naturalizes certain ideas about how spectrum can and ought to be used. But our language misleads us.

Together, workshop “articipants” will form a citizens’ assembly of sorts, deliberating these themes. We take in a global view, considering not only the regulatory environment in the US, but also Indigenous legal challenges to spectrum auctions in Aotearoa New Zealand & Turtle Island, grassroots spectrum autonomy in Latin America, and the claims to spectrum by its more-than-human users. We’ll experiment with language and listening to renovate our understanding of spectrum and recover its strangeness. As citizens of spectrum, we will negotiate a “radio treaty” (a ‘treaty’ being, in essence, a score) that professes what rights—and mutual obligations—we might claim to guide our radioventures. Across these prompts, articipants will have the option to submit personal reflections and creative responses to be included in a collaborative radioplay.

Now as ever, the spectrum is a proving ground for some of the most urgent political re-calibrations of our time: the rights and powers of corporate bodies, the nature of the democratic nation-state, Indigenous sovereignty and decolonial governance, overlapping sovereignties within shared territorial environments. In deliberating together over the radio spectrum, may we also find a way to walk together on the earth.

Oram’s work explores the histories and micro-cultures of musical practice itself, as well as its socio-political entanglements. Her radiophonic pieces employ radio technologies (sometimes DIY) as a musical instrument in the pursuit of richly contrapuntal sonic textures. Often Oram’s work engages with the histories and cultures of both public and amateur radio, and their entwined development with colonialism and nation-building—especially in her home country Aotearoa New Zealand. Recent compositions for live performance span instrumental and vocal concert music, polyphonic songs, music for period Baroque instruments, experimental music-theatre, and orchestral music for dance-theater. The Alan Skerrett Scholarship Fund Committee would like to announce a showing of Alan’s photography collection. The exhibit, to honor the legacy of Alan Skerrett which includes many of his original works, will be located in the gallery space directly in front of the library at Columbia-Greene Community College, and will hang from Friday September 27, 4 pm through October 14 (Indigenous Peoples’ Day), available to the public during the hours the college is open.

This summer, CLC is hosting a series of programs where participants can learn more about and try land management techniques in a supportive environment so that you can feel comfortable implementing them at home!

This series of workshops is ideal for those who are already actively managing their land, those who would like get to started, and those interested in learning more about how CLC manages the properties we care for.

Ansible Realm Connector

Ansible Realm Connector is an innovative live docu-fictional radio play and Arkestral tele-performance that unfolds the narrative of the (fictional) inter-dimensional ansible, I.D.A., and the genesis of the (real) ANANSI Revolutionary Collective. Envisioned as a global collaboration, musicians, sound artists, and writers will synchronize from diverse locations using low-latency audio transfer technology. This interdisciplinary telematic performance aims to transcend physical distances, creating a shared experience for a global audience. SUNJIR0 will anchor the project on-site at Wave Farm while connected with artists in Nairobi, Kenya and Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Author Ona Gritz will join the Hudson Area Library and Columbia County Libraries Association (CCLA) for a virtual talk about her book, "Everywhere I Look", which investigates the life of her late sister, who was an inmate at The New York State Training School for Girls in Hudson. This compelling story shines a light on Ms. Gritz’s search for answers to explain her sister’s death, and the family secrets discovered during her quest.

On Monday, October 7th at 6:00 PM, the Hudson Common Council will hold a public work session to help determine whether the city will opt into Good Cause Eviction, following extensive organizing for a local opt-in by grassroots organization For the Many. The City of Hudson has recently seen rental prices increase by 36%, leading to a rise in evictions and widespread displacement of lifelong residents. While tenants have banded together to call for a strong local version of Good Cause Eviction, landlords have launched a digital ad campaign to spread misinformation about the law. Monday’s work session will bring together proponents of Good Cause and its detractors as the Council contemplates how best to protect tenants.

He is doing better, but due to the cost of the food he must eat and the frequent trips to the hospital, it has put undue expenses on the family,” stated the Red Barn Riders RC where “Little Chad” is a junior member. This October, the club is hosting Little Chad's Fall Foliage Ride & Fundraiser to help take some of the burden from the family. An opportunity to harvest seeds from flowering plants and identify pollinator-friendly species! During this guided seed collection hike, participants will learn when and where to harvest and collect seeds to take home.
