Previte has invited some of his favorite musicians in the Hudson Valley and beyond for these inaugural concerts of his newest project, Blueprints. Starting from 1979 and going forward up to the present moment, Previte has ripped a fragment of nearly every piece of music he has written in the last 39 years and placed them all, divorced from their previous context, into one (very long) document. The ensemble will play, distort, improvise around, and sometimes ignore these fragments. Using hand signals, body movements, and the occasional odd glare, Previte conducts the musicians through the maze, taking a different path every night. Part performance, part open rehearsal, part hang out - where audience members as well as players will see the fragments projected on screen - Blueprints should be a wildly different experience each performance. Particpants can explore the local geology and deep-time history on a walk along the falls with Dr. Charles Ver Straeten of the New York State Museum. Semi-rugged walk; sturdy footwear required. Omi International Art Center's Artist Walk is a weekly tour with artist Sarah Butler. Artist Walk invites visiting individuals and groups for an introduction to featured exhibitions and permanent installations at The Fields Sculpture Park, including conversations in design, cinema and cultural studies. Ali Smith leads an open-level workshop where participants will learn two different ways to color cloth with natural dyes. Create and experiment with three dye baths- avocado stones, onion skins, and a seasonal foraged pot. Each student will create a swatchbook - an important tool for any natural dyer.

Wave Farm's fourth annual Audio Buffet will take place on Saturday August 25, 2018, 3 - 7 p.m. In 2015, Pauline Oliveros and IONE donated the 32-channel mixing board they once traveled the world with to Wave Farm. Their generous and meaningful donation serves as the fulcrum for the Audio Buffet event, where dozens of acoustic and electronic sound artists come together for a live collaborative and improvisational broadcast on Wave Farm's WGXC 90.7-FM.

A new Spanish-language program of animated, documentary, and live action films full of warmth, wit, and the cultural richness of our friends and neighbors to the south: Mexico. Drawn from the Festival’s annual Friends and Neighbors program spotlighting a different country every year, this lineup is co-curated with Mexico’s Morelia International Film Festival. Greg Fox is a multi-instrumentalist, interdisciplinary artist, and teacher born and based in New York City. A versatile and prolific creative, Fox studied percussion with Guy Licata, Thurman Barker, Marvin “Bugalu” Smith, has a B.A. in Integrated Arts from Bard College, and has toured, recorded and released numerous records with Liturgy, Guardian Alien, ZS, Ex Eye, Skeletons, Teeth Mountain, Dan Deacon, Colin Stetson, Ben Frost, and many more.

Omi: Architecture hosts a book signing with David Sokol, author of "Hudson Modern: Residential Landscapes at the Art Omi Benenson Center." Hudson Modern showcases new houses in the Hudson River Valley that embrace the dramatic settings and cultural bounty of this popular region. Designing residences that revere local climate, landscape, and history in a distinctly modernist language, these talents are sowing a new Hudson River school of architectural thought.

Art Omi: Architecture presents "zoid" by LevenBetts Architects. Located at the Benenson Center at Art Omi and Architecture Field 01, opening to the public September 8 for a two-year exhibition. Based on a single repeatable shape—a right trapezoid—zoid's ultimate objective is to exist as a holistic collective living environment. As an experience of shelter that engages visually and physically with the landscape and experientially with the other pieces in the collection, this iteration of the project intends to create a shelter for an arts venue that provides for collectivity and individuality in a dwelling.

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Columbia and Greene Counties will be hosting a general information and Phenology Monitoring Training workshop for the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid, an invasive insect threatening one of the most important tree species in the northeast. Presented by Charlotte Malmborg of the New York State Hemlock Initiative. Guests will learn about the threat this beetle poses for New York’s forests. The first part of the training will focus on identifying hemlock trees and hemlock woolly adelgid, management techniques for landowners and managers, and biocontrol opportunities. Basilica SoundScape, a curated weekend that’s been called “the anti­festival” for offering of a mix of music, visual art, and literature, is presented by The Creative Independent’s Brandon Stosuy and Basilica Hudson co-founders Melissa Auf der Maur and Tony Stone with additional creative direction from long-time visual and design director of SoundScape, and former Pitchfork Creative Director Mike Renaud – now head of Chicago-based integrated creative studio Varyer, who are formally joining the team as co-presenters of the event. Guests will meet live forest animals and learn how fire destroys their habitats and threatens their lives. Hausu Mountain: With one tentacle threaded through the US noise underground and one ear fixed on a worldwide online network of freak-friendly minds, the Hausu Mountain label has pumped a diverse menu of experimental music from its volcanic peak at a steady clip since 2012. Founded in Chicago by musicians and roommates Doug Kaplan (who records as MrDougDoug) and Max Allison (who records as Mukqs), the label originally served as a home for their own projects, including the trio Good Willsmith. As Kaplan and Allison discover new projects from touring the DIY circuit and scraping through the strangest corners of the internet, the label’s wide catalog grows to encompass everything from otherworldly synthesizer composition to frantic beat production in the IDM tradition to strains of free jazz infused with electronics alongside horns or drums – onward through any number of genre-bending mutations you might find in the “???” or “Avant/Noise” bin in your local record store. As much as Hausu Mountain’s releases diverge in terms of style, the label’s aesthetic hinges on the conception of music as a force to both challenge listeners and entertain them in equal measure. Any given release resists stasis, skips at will through disparate musical vocabularies, and leads listeners through dense sonic narratives that defy expectations as each new idea or unpredictable juxtaposition pierces through the cosmic jelly. The Hudson Area Library and the City of Hudson Senior Center are offering a 12-week Creative Writing class, taught by author, artist, educator, and social activist Maureen McNeil. Held weekly on Thursdays from September 20 through December 13, the series runs from 2:30 to 4pm. Students will explore memories, sensory observation, dreams, autobiography, fiction, and poetry, and will share a selection of their work. All levels of writers are welcome. A zine of student work will be available at the library and on the library’s website, and a final celebration of student writing will be held in the library on December 13.

This workshop with Sandy Orris begins indoors at the Eldridge Research Station, 284 Pond Hill Road, Rensselaerville, with a demonstration on using colored pencils for accurate botanical sketching. The use of colored pencils for keeping an illustrated science journal will also be discussed. Participants will be able to work indoors or outdoors on a project of their choice. Please bring your own colored pencils and a drawing pad. The event is open to everyone age 15 and up. Please make sure to pack a lunch and drink.

The Friends of the Hudson Area Library host a book and bake sale in the community room of the library. Used books on a variety of subjects, including art books will be for sale. There will also be homemade baked desserts for sale during this event.

Seed bead weaving is a way to add colors and graphic patterns to your craft knowledge repertoire. Workshop will cover how to create simple patterns in traditional flat weave peyote stitch, as well as finishing techniques and an overview of different types of suitable beads and supplies for the project. This workshop will focus on the creative possibilities and technique of rug making using tools and mesh canvas specifically designed for the latch hook technique. You will also be provided with a large array of colors of yarn to work with. The hope of the workshop is to help you explore the applications of this often overlooked handcraft, both conventional and out of the box. Rick Winston, author of the recently published "Red Scare in the Green Mountains: Vermont in the McCarthy Era 1946-1960," will be speaking at the Hudson Area Library on Thursday September 27 from 6 to 7:30pm. In the late 1940s through the early 1960s, many screenwriters, directors, and actors were victims of what became known as the “Red Scare.” This talk explores the origins of the blacklist in the formation of the Screen Writers’ Guild in 1933, Hollywood’s labor unrest in the 1930s and 40s, how the blacklist worked, and what led to its ultimate end. Join Mud Creek Environmental Learning Center, for a morning of birding around Mud Creek as the birds begin their fall migration. All skill levels are welcome. The Greater Hudson Promise Neighborhood is thrilled to be partnering with the Hudson Area Library for the High Five! early literacy program. The GHPN works to support children and families in the Hudson City School District from birth through college to career. This program meets Saturdays from 11am to 1pm beginning Sept. 29, ending Oct. 27. Families with a child from birth to age five, can join a supportive community and learn fun activities to help build their child’s reading skills. Older siblings are welcome during the program. The Dutchess County Division of Solid Waste Management is working to increase recycling within the county. They will offer an interactive after-school educational program for children. They have been focused on helping schools and community groups increase the amount of materials they recycle by providing recycling presentations. The program involves teaching ways to increase recycling, the typical items that can be recycled, why we should recycle, and how to promote recycling and waste reduction in our daily lives. The goal is getting citizens excited about the benefits of recycling and waste reduction. Happens in the East Room.

Hudson Area Library presents an informational forum: “Census 2020: Stand Up and Be Counted!” Information and discussion will be centered around: What can we do to improve participation from hard-to-count populations? How do we engage vulnerable communities and the general population to ensure an accurate census? Childcare, food, and refreshments provided. Figure From Ground are an experimental music quartet based in northern (Canton/Malone) NY. Claude Aldous, Ola Aldous, Michael Hart, and Ramon Vasquez began working together in the summer of 2017, creating and documenting improvised soundscapes using modular synthesizers, prepared and effected piano, contact microphones, found objects, and voice. The group has been played on CKCU’s Acoustic Frontiers radio program in Ottawa, Canada, on multiple occasions and recently released an album on the Athens, Greece, based Game of Life Label. Wave Farm Artist-in-residence Aaron Dilloway leads a workshop on tape loops. Dilloway will demonstrate his tape manipulation set-up and techniques using a variety of vintage tape machines, as well as teach attendees how to splice and loop tapes. "Teviotdale: Old Steamboat Days on the Hudson River" is presented by Hudson Hall as part of the lecture series "Life Along the Hudson: Historic Country Estates of the Livingston Family." Kent Barwick, a Board member of The SS Columbia Project formed to revive the tradition of Hudson River steamboat excursions, talks about former Teviotdale resident Robert Fulton and his efforts to establish steamboats as the first commercial transport on American waterways. Coming on the heels of their first international tour, Lusterlit brings their evening of songs about books to HiLo Catskill. Lusterlit produces The Bushwick Book Club in Brooklyn, a rotating group of songwriters and performers of all kinds putting on regular shows featuring new music, art and snacks inspired by a chosen work of literature. Susan Hwang founded it in 2009 and Charlie Nieland has been a participant since 2013. Annual Fall Rummage Sale to benefit the First Reformed Church of Catskill.

The Art of Music Group Show is a musician-themed show with work by Penny Jordan, Corrine Jorgenson, Erika Klein, Luis Macia, Emily Pell, Ruby Silvious, and Roz Tobias October 6 to November 16 with the opening reception October 12. Mediums include ink and wash, oil and chalk pastel, oils, acrylic, watercolor, gouche, monoprint, and mixed media. The Show is the culmination of several plein air sessions held at the Coxsackie Farmers Market throughout the spring and summer. Light refreshments provided by the Friends of the Heermance Memorial Library will be served. This project is made possible with public funds from the Decentralization Program of the NYS Council on the Arts, administered in Greene County by the Greene County Council on the Arts through the Community Arts Grant Fund.

"Rhapsody" marks drummer/composer Previte's debut as a lyricist. Over the course of this two-day workshop students learn how to fit and sew their own custom underwire bra using the Orange Lingerie Marlborough bra sewing pattern. Instructor Norma Loehr fits each student and teaches them how to customize the fit of their garment. Literacy Connections of the Hudson Valley is looking for a team of volunteers to conduct an adult English as another language drop-in class for speakers of other languages, to be hosted by the Ichabod Crane Central School District. No previous teaching experience or foreign language background is necessary. New volunteers are required to attend a free orientation session and to complete the online training modules. Trained volunteers are provided ongoing support as they work with students. A follow-up meeting to this orientation session will be held Mon., Nov. 19.
