Prison Voices Project: Prison Towns (Audio)

Sep 07, 2011
Hosted by Kaya Weidman and Cory Fischer-Hoffman.
This month's program explores Prison Towns -- towns whose economies are reliant on prisons as a source of employment. Featuring a PVP exclusive with Lauren Melodia, who is on the road promoting a campaign called Milk Not Jails, which proposes that the dairy industry in New York be promoted as an economic alternative to prisons. The program also features a 30-minute piece called Prison Town, produced by Making Contact and the National Radio Project. This is just the beginning of the Prison Voices Project's work on the economic impacts of prisons, and we are eager to explore this topic more as it pertains to Greene and Columbia counties.
