Sneak Preview: Harlem Children's Zone (Audio)
Oct 15, 2012
Produced by Pamela Badila.
A short preview of audio recorded during a visit to the Harlem Children's Zone, produced by Pamela Badila. The Harlem Children's Zone is a non-profit organization operates a neighborhood-wide system of education and social services and programs for children and families in a 100-block area in Harlem. Why is this significant? President Obama’s “Promise Neighborhoods Initiative,” which has granted a $400,000 planning grant to the Catholic Charaties of Columbia and Greene Counties for a Greater Hudson Promise Neighborhood planning project, was designed around the Harlem Children’s Zone - with the intention of replicating neighborhood-wide programs like the Harlem Children’s Zone across the country. Earlier this month, a group from the Greater Hudson Area Planning Project traveled to the HCZ for a three-day visit and tour, including WGXC's Pamela Badila. We’ll be broadcasting an hour-long feature on the Harlem Children's Zone on October 29, at 4pm.
