Hudson Valley Word of Mouth: Amy Hausmann and Mark Prezorski of Olana State Historic Site (Audio)

Apr 28, 2021
Produced by Julia Joern.

In the latest Hudson Valley Word of Mouth segment, Julia Joern visits Olana, located just outside of the city of Hudson. A living, breathing holistic artistic experience integrating architecture, landscape, conservation, and ecology, Olana was created by Frederic Church (1826-1900). Known primarily as a painter, he was also a world traveller, a family man, and a self-taught architect, farmer, and landscape designer, and Olana is considered his masterpiece and also the crowned jewel of the Hudson Valley.

Amy Hausmann, Director of Olana State Historic Site, and Mark Prezorski, Senior Vice President and Landscape Curator of The Olana Partnership, discuss Church’s overall vision and legacy, plus new projects with contemporary artists, including the current outdoor installations, 'FALLEN' by Jean Shin and 'Memento Mori Mandalas' by Portia Munson. Also forthcoming is the group exhibition, 'Cross Pollination: Heade, Cole, Church, and Our Contemporary Moment', presented in collaboration with the Thomas Cole National Historic Site (on view June 12 - October 31), after traveling from Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.
