Nuestra Musica: Entre Mujeres
Sep 04, 2020: 12pm - 2pm
This week we are featuring Entre Mujeres and Son Jarocho: Entre Mujeres: Women Making Music Across Borders. Founded by musicians Martha Gonzales (GRAMMY Award winning band Quetzal) and Laura Marina Rebolloso (Son De Madera), this collaborative project features original compositions by musicians from Los Angeles and Veracruz. Its goal is to create community and make visible through song the voices, ideas, and trans local dialogues between women from both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border. Featuring some of the city's finest singers, Entre Mujeres cleverly blends traditional sounds of fandango with influences such as rock, jazz, blues, hip-hop, and African and Odissi rhythms. Presented in collaboration with the Smithsonian Folklife Festival. During our second hour we will be presenting music inspired by the Son Jarocho of Veracruz, and again with musicians from Mexico and LA. From La Bamba Rebelde a very different version of La Bamba, to El Chuchumbe and mixing Afro music with Fandango and Jarocho musicians from L.A. and Veracruz bring instruments like Jaranas, Pandero, Quijada and requinto.
