Jordan Smith, who is Mohawk, Bear Clan, and works at Fort Niagara discusses the historical significance of the fort, and the impact that colonialism and the American Revolution had on the Haudenosaunee (also known as the Iroquois and Six Nations). Smith spoke with Brendan Maslauskas Dunn of WOOC about the displacement, land theft, war, and refugee crisis the Haudenosaunee encountered, but also their continued resistance and resilience. Also, tune in Barbara Pal of Divest NY, the producer of a video featuring students calling on their teachers to help them in their campaign to divest the New York State Teachers’ Retirement System. Currently, NYSTRS has an estimated $4.5 billion in fossil fuel holdings, which are constantly increasing including investments in coal. Pal speaks with WOOC's Mark Dunlea. www,divestnyteacher.org for the video.
